Define Lot Algorithm Reference Values

When setting up lot algorithms, if you prefer the lot number to not show the exact value of a component, or if you want a particular component to have the same value in the lot algorithm, you can define an alternate value or a reference. A reference value will take precedence over the alternate value.

Cross referencing can be defined for items, locations, work centers, and work shifts within a lot algorithm. References give you more flexibility to create customized algorithms. For example, you produce work-in-progress items and finished goods at the same location but you want the location in the lot number to indicate the type of product that was created. You would define one LOCATIONCODE reference value for the lot algorithm used for finished goods, and define a different LOCATIONCODE reference value for the lot algorithm used for work-in-progress items.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Lot Algorithms, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Lot Algorithms page, select the lot algorithm to which to add the reference.

  3. On the Lot Algorithm page, choose Lot Algorithm References.

  4. On the Lot Algorithm Reference Entries page, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Reference Type

    Select the type of reference.

The reference type determines the values you can select in the Reference Type Code field. The corresponding type must be added to the Components table on the Lot Algorithm page in order for the reference value to appear in the generated lot number.

    Reference Type Code

Select the record to which the reference code will apply.

The types of records depend on the value selected in the Reference Type Code field.

Reference Code Enter the value that will be used by the lot algorithm when building the lot number.
Description (Optional) Enter a description to indicate the reason for the reference.
