Create Production Order Batches
You can create batches for single or multiple production orders. Production orders will be split into batches, and the size of the batches will be based on the selected batch calculation method.
Create batches for a single production order
You can create production order batches for simulated, planned, firm planned, and released production orders. The following steps explain how to create production order batches from a released production order, but similar steps can be followed for other types of open production orders.
Choose the icon, enter Released Production Orders, and then choose the related link.
On the Released Production Orders page, select the production order you want to update.
On the Released Production Order page, in the Lines FastTab, populate the following fields:
Field Description Batch Calculation Method If applicable, select the code that determines how the batches are calculated.
You can only change the value if the Allow Edit Calculation On Line toggle is turned on on the Production Batch Setup page.
The field is automatically populated if the production order has a variant code and location that match the calculation method assigned to the item.
Require Batch No. Select the checkbox to require a batch number when outputting the item. The default is from the Item Card page. This value overrides the default.
If applicable, indicate if the components need a batch number when they are consumed.
On the Lines FastTab, select Line > Components.
On the Prod. Order Components page, populate the following field:
Close the page.
Field Description Require Batch No. Select the checkbox to require a batch number when consuming the item.
The default is from the Production BOM page. This value overrides the default.
If you clear the checkbox and batches were already created, you will be warned that changing the value will remove the item from the batches.Select Home > Calculate Batches to create production order batches for each line of the production order.
Select OK at the Batches have been created message.
In the Lines FastTab, select Line > Batches to view the production order batches for each line.
On the Production Order Batches page, populate the following field:
Field Description Blocked If applicable, select if the batch should be blocked.
Leaving the field blank if there are no restrictions imposed on transactions associated with this line.
- All: Select if you want to restrict the transaction from posting consumption, output, and capacity of this line.
- Output: Select if you want to restrict the transaction from posting output and capacity of the line.
- Consumption: Select if you want to restrict the transaction from posting the consumption of the line. Leaving the field blank indicates that there are no restrictions imposed on transactions associated with this line.
The Production Order Batches page shows the list of batches along with detailed information for each batch including the following fields:
Batch No.: Specifies a number to identify the batch
Quantity: Quantity to be produced for the batch on the line.
Unit of Measure Code: Unit of measure of the items in the batch. By default, the value is from the Base Unit of Measure field on the Item Card page but can be changed on the production order line.
Finished Quantity: Specifies how much of the quantity on this line has been produced.
Create batches for multiple production orders
Rather than creating batches for individual production orders, you can create batches for multiple production orders directly through the Planned Production Orders, Firm Planned Prod. Orders, and Released Production Orders pages.
By simply selecting multiple production orders on a production order list page and selecting the Calculate Batches action, multiple batches can be created simultaneously. If a batch cannot be calculated for one or more of the selected production orders, such as when a Production Batch Calculation Method Code has not been assigned to the production order, the user will receive an error message page outlining the reasoning behind the error.
Choose the icon, enter Planned Production Orders, Firm Planned Prod. Orders, or Released Production Orders, and then choose the related link.
Select the production orders for which you want to create batches.
Select Calculate Batches.
Select Yes to confirm you want to create batches for the selected production orders.
If a batch cannot be calculated for one or more of the selected production orders, such as when a production batch calculation method has not been assigned to the production order, you will receive a message on the Error Messages page explaining the reason for the error.
