Set Up Item Tracking Codes

Only items that are package-tracked can use warehouse license plating. You need to set up an item tracking code with package tracking enabled, and then assign it to items as required.

Set up an item tracking code to use package tracking

These steps only explain how to set up an item tracking code to work with the Warehouse License Plating app. Go to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central help for more information on setting up item tracking codes.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Item Tracking Codes, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Item Tracking Codes page, open the code that will be used for package tracking.

    Note

    You cannot change an existing item tracking code if it has transactions.

  3. On the Item Tracking Code Card page, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Package Specific Tracking Turn the toggle on.
    Package Warehouse Tracking If your inventory management processes dictate that you track bins within your warehouse, turn the toggle on to track packages at the bin level.

Assign an item tracking code to an item

Once the item tracking codes are set up to use package tracking, the codes need to be assigned to the appropriate items.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Items, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Items page, open the item record to which to add the item tracking code.

    Note

    You cannot change the item tracking code for existing items that have transactions. If you need help configuring your existing items to use package tracking, please contact NIC Systems and we will be happy to provide you with assistance.

  3. On the Item Card page, in the Item Tracking FastTab, populate the following field:

    Field Description
    Item Tracking Code Select the item tracking code that is set up to use package tracking.
