Import Legacy Data

You can import legacy sales and consumption data into Business Central, export it to ForecastX with the ForecastX Connector app, and use the historical data for more accurate forecasts.

You need to use the Configuration Package function to import data and must have an understanding of how the data works. For more information on the Configuration Package function, see Set Up Company Configuration Packages in Microsoft Learn.

Import legacy data

To import legacy data, you need to export the Item Ledger Entry Legacy table, populate the table, and import the table back into Business Central.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Configuration Packages, then choose the related link.

  2. On the Configuration Packages page, select New.

  3. On the Config. Package Card page, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Code Enter the code for the configuration package.
    Description Enter a description of the demand forecast.
  4. In the Tables FastTab, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Table ID Enter 23093910 for the Item Ledger Entry Legacy table.
  5. Select Export to Excel > Export to Excel.

  6. Select Yes to export the file.

  7. Open the Excel file and populate with the legacy data you want to import.

    To eventually export the data to ForecastX, the data needs to be set up as follows:

    • Entry No.: Required. Enter a unique number.
    • Item No.: Required. The value must be a valid item number in Business Central.
    • Posting Date: Required. The field cannot be empty.
    • Entry Type: Required. The value must be Sale or Consumption.
    • Description: Optional. Description of the item.
    • Location: Optional. The value must be a valid location in Business Central.
    • Quantity: Required: The value must be a negative number.
    • Document Type: Required for Sale entry type: The value must be Sales Shipment if the entry type is Sale.
    • Variant: Optional. The value must be a valid variant in Business Central.
    • Qty. per Unit of Measure: Optional.
    • Unit of Measure: Required. The value must be a valid unit of measure in Business Central.
    • Item Category: Optional. The value must be a valid item category in Business Central.

  8. On the Configuration Packages page, select the package that contains the Item Ledger Entry Legacy table.

  9. On the Config. Package Card page, select Import from Excel > Import from Excel.

  10. Select the file that has the data for the Item Ledger Entry Legacy table.

  11. On the Config. Package Import Preview page, select Import.

    If you want to review the data, select the value in the No. of Package Records field in the Tables FastTab.

  12. Select Apply Package.

  13. Select Yes to apply the data.

    The data can be viewed from the Legacy - Item Ledger Entry page, and will be exported to ForecastX if based on the entered date range.

View the legacy data

You can view the imported legacy data.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Legacy - Item Ledger Entry, then choose the related link.

    The Legacy - Item Ledger Entry page shows all of the data that was imported. The data cannot be changed.

Delete legacy data

If you imported data by mistake, users with the NICFXC ADMIN permission set can delete the data.

  1. Choose the icon, enter Legacy - Item Ledger Entry, then choose the related link.

  2. On the Legacy - Item Ledger Entry page, select Delete.

  3. On the Delete Legacy Item Ledger Entries page, enter the filters that determine the entries to delete.

    Warning

    If no filters are entered, then all of the entries will be deleted.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Select Yes to confirm the deletion.
