Create Quality Inspection Templates

Set up the quality inspection templates, which are used to create the quality inspections. The templates include the tests and the criteria for determining if a test passes or fails.

Create a quality inspection template

  1. Choose the icon, enter Quality Inspection Templates, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Quality Inspection Templates page, select New.

  3. On the Quality Inspection Template page, in the General FastTab, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Code Enter the code that identifies the template.
    Description Enter a description of the template.
    Inspection Nos. If applicable, select an inspection number series that will override the one defined on the Quality Inspection Setup page.
    Inspection Template Category Code Select the category used to group inspection templates and inspections.
  4. In the Lines FastTab, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Test Code Select the test that needs to be completed during the inspection.
    No. Test Results Required

    Enter the number of times the test should be run.

    When the inspection is created, the test will appear on the inspection as many times as the value entered, allowing results to be recorded multiple times.
  5. If the test result format is Number or Option, you can define the values that indicate if a test will pass.

    1. On the Lines FastTab, select the test to which to add values.

    2. Select Line > Related Information > Accepted Values.

      Alternatively, you can select the Accepted Values or Target Value field.

    3. On the Quality Inspection Template Line Accepted Values page, populate the following fields:

      Field Description
      Value

      Enter a value that will be the minimum, maximum or target value.

      Note

      The Minimum and Maximum checkboxes can only be selected if the test result format is Number.

      Minimum

      Select the checkbox for the minimum value needed for a result to pass. The checkbox can only be selected if the test result format is Number.

      Maximum

      Select the check box for the maximum value needed for a result to pass. The checkbox can only be selected if the test result format is Number.

      Target

      Select the only value that will allow the test to pass.

      Only one target value can be selected.
    4. Close the page.

      The Accepted Values and Target Value fields are populated. For a test to pass, the value must be between the minimum and maximum values or the value must equal the target if the test result format is Option.

  6. Select the sources for which the quality inspections will be generated.

    1. Select Inspection Template > Sources.

    2. On the Quality Inspection Template Sources page, select Add Source.

    3. From the Objects page, select the object for which quality inspections will be generated.

    4. If applicable, populate the following fields:

      Field Description
      Table Filter

      Select a specific value for which to generate quality inspections.

      For example, generate inspections for a specific customer number on sales orders or for purchase lines with a type of Item.
      Date to Filter

      Select the date that will be used to filter the source documents when creating batch inspections.

      The default value is from the Quality Inspections Setup page based on the selected source.
      Test Date

      Select the source document date that will be used to set the test date for a quality inspection.

      The test date is the day the test is expected to be completed.

      The default value is from the Quality Inspections Setup page based on the selected source.

      Description Enter a description of the source filter.
    5. Close the Quality Inspection Template Sources page.

  7. If applicable, add item restrictions the template.

    This allows you to apply restrictions to tracked items associated with active or finished quality inspections. The restricted items will be prevented from being used in inbound, outbound, and warehouse processes.

    The Inventory Restrictions app needs to be installed to add restrictions.

  8. In the General FastTab, populate the following field:

    Field Description
    Status

    Select Active.

    Sources must be defined to change the status to Active.

    With an Active status, the template can be used to generate inspections but cannot be edited.

    Once the status is Active, the Create Inspection and Batch Create Inspections actions are active.

    The possible statuses are as follows:

    • Draft: Template can be edited but cannot be used to generate inspections.
    • Active: Template cannot be edited and can be used to generate inspections.
    • Inactive: Template can be edited but cannot be used to generate inspections. Lines cannot be copied to a template with an Inactive status.

Copy a quality inspection template

You can copy an existing quality inspection template to a new template.

  1. On the Quality Inspection Template page, select Home > Copy Inspection Template.

  2. On the Copy Inspection Template page, populate the following fields:

    Field Description
    Target Quality Inspection Template Code Enter a code that represents the new template that will be created using the information from the source template code.
    Copy Inspection Nos Turn the toggle on to copy the number series in the Inspection Nos. field, which will override the number series defined on the Quality Inspection Setup page.
    Copy Inspection Template Category Turn the toggle on to copy the template category code
    Copy Inspection Template Filters Turn the toggle on to copy the filters associated with the template sources.
  3. Select OK.

    The existing template is copied to the target template.
