Add Restrictions to Expiring Inventory
You can manually or automatically add a restriction to expiring inventory.
Prerequisites
The Add Restrictions (Manually) check box is selected for your user ID on the User Setup page.
When using the Apply Expiration Warning Restrictions page, the Expiration Warning and Expiration Warning Restriction Code fields are populated on the Inventory Restriction Setup page. See Set Up Inventory Restrictions for more information.
Automatically add restrictions to expiring inventory
Restrictions codes can be automatically applied to expiring inventory if the Apply Expiration Warning Restrictions job queue is scheduled.
Manually add restrictions from the Apply Expiration Warning Restrictions page
The restriction code in the Expiration Warning Restriction Code field defined during setup will be applied to expiring inventory.
The lots nearing their expiry date are listed. Expiring inventory is calculated based on the value in the Expiration Warning field on the Inventory Restriction Setup page. If you want to see a list of expiring inventory before applying restrictions, see View Expiring Inventory.
Choose the
icon, enter Apply Expiration Warning Restrictions, then choose the related link.On the Apply Expiration Warning Restrictions page, enter filters if needed.
If filters are not applied, the Expiring Warning restriction code will be applied to all expiring inventory.
Select OK.
The restriction code in the Expiration Warning Restriction Code field on the Inventory Restrictions Setup is assigned to inventory nearing expiry based on the value in the Expiration Warning field.
Manually add restrictions from the Inventory Restriction Journals page
The Inventory Restriction Journals page shows a list of the expiring inventory, and you must manually select and add the appropriate Expiration restriction code for each inventory line.
Choose the
icon, enter Inventory Restriction Journals, then choose the related link.On the Inventory Restriction Journals page, populate the following field:
Field Description Batch Name Select the journal batch, which is a customized layout that the journal lines will follow. Select Home > Suggest Expiring Inventory.
On the Suggest Expiring Inventory page, enter filters if needed.
Select OK.
The lots nearing their expiry date are listed. Expiring inventory is calculated based on the value in the Expiration Warning field on the Inventory Restriction Setup page.
In the Lines FastTab, populate the following fields as needed:
The Current Restrictions FactBox shows the restrictions currently associated with the selected line.
Field Description Posting Date Select the date to post the entry. Entry Type Select Add Restriction. Document No. Enter a document number. Inventory Restriction Code Select the inventory restriction code to add a single restriction to the item.
If the field is not visible, the Inventory Restrictions on Lines check box was not selected on the Inventory Restriction Journal Batches page.
If you cannot select a value, it means restrictions have been added from the Restrictions action, and you must use that action to make changes.If applicable, add multiple restrictions to a line.
Select a line.
Select Line > Restrictions
On the Inventory Restriction Journal Restrictions page, select one or more restriction codes.
Close the page.
The restrictions added from the **Restrictions** action are listed in the **Pending Restrictions** FactBox with a status of *Add*.
Select Home > Post.
The selected restrictions are associated with the item's lot number. If the Remove from Available Inventory toggle was turned on when creating the restriction code, then the restricted inventory will be excluded from any calculations, and will not be available from the following Item Availability by pages:
- Period
- Variant
- Location
- Lot
- Unit of Measure
Records are created in the Inventory Restriction Registers page and Inventory Restriction Entries page.
You can view the restriction entries or view how much inventory is restricted.
